Alma (Seeman )Rettig, of Holgate passed peacefully away on her 101st Birthday, December 23, 2014 at Golden Living Center Northcrest of Napoleon Ohio. Born on December 23, 1913 in Richfield Twp. Henry County Ohio to Henry Seeman and Minnie (Mueller) Seeman. United in marriage on April 21, 1938 to George Rettig (deceased) at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Napoleon.
Survived by son Norman G. (Jonalax) Rettig of Holgate, daughter, Nancy Rettig and Tom Shaw of Lakewood Colorado, grandchildren, Corrin Rettig and Nick Jarzynski, Marcus (Jess) Rettig and great grandchild Kendall. Also survived by sisters Dorothy Lange of Kissimee FL and Wilma Lange of Fort Meyers Florida.
Preceded in death by her parents Henry and Minnie, husband George, sister Erna Stroh, and brothers Ernest, Alfred and Henry Seeman.
Alma was a homemaker and partner in the family farm. She was a lifelong, and the oldest member of St. John U.C.C. Church of Holgate, and at one time was a very active member of the church.
When she was a young girl, Alma wanted to be a school teacher. One of her fondest memories is of helping her one-room school house teacher instruct other students, even boys who were older then her! Because educational opportunities were limited in those days, especially for girls, she never became a school teacher. She did however become a terrific mom who inspired her children and grandchildren to be curious, to value education, to have sense of humor and to be kind to one another. She was a strong woman, ahead of her time, who lived her life, especially her final years, with courage and grace. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the entire wonderful staff at Northcrest. Your kindness, care and all the times you made mom smile, will always be remembered.
Visitation for Alma will be at Snyder Funeral Home 209 N. Wilhelm St, Holgate Ohio, on Monday December 29, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Daniel Sather will officiate. The family would like memorial donations be made to St. John U.C.C. of Holgate Ohio.
