She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Mansel Smith; parents, Richard Henry and Omma Lee Rogers; brothers, Edd and Ross Rogers and a sister, Joanne Fraley.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Marion County, TN, but resided in Chattanooga for many years. She received permanent certification as an elementary teacher after attending MTSU and graduated from the University of Chattanooga with a BS degree. She taught in elementary school systems 33 years and was a member of Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System, Chattanooga-Hamilton County Retired Teachers association and an honorary life member of the Tennessee Congress of Parents and Teachers.
She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Survivors include her son, E. Wayne Smith (Donna) of Monteagle, TN; granddaughter, Melodie Smith; great-granddaughter, Megan Knight; great-great-grandchildren, Danial Knight and Lexie Hall all of Chattanooga; sisters, Betty Brown (Bob) and Wilma Moon of Marietta, GA; sister-in-law, Christine Rogers, Moreland, GA; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Smith was an active member of Oakwood Baptist Church and the Alathean Sunday School Class. She attended faithfully until declining health prevented her doing so.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Tuesday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be nephews, Jeffrey Fraley, Tommy Moon, Roger Moon, Bob Morris, Steve Bennett and Buck Trayser.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Alathean Sunday School Class of Oakwood Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 2-6 PM Sunday and from 4-8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
