Shelba was born in Chattanooga on Aug. 3, 1945 to the late Bill and Jewel Carter . She lived life with God and her family first.
Shelba attended Red Bank High School and attended University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Though small in stature, Shelba was a grand woman who wore a smile on her face, always stylish clothes on her body, and her heart on her sleeve.
She married her love James Edward Jolley (Jim) in 1968 and they settled in Hixson. Her heart beat loud and proud for her family, but especially for her only child and beloved son, Jay, and her 3 grandchildren.
She was a member of Hixson United Methodist where she attended regularly. Shelba had many hobbies and passions including antiquing and decorating, home building, horse breeding and playing bridge.
She will be missed dearly by her remaining family and her close friends who visited with her until the end. Her last hours were spent listening to Merle Haggard and being held and adored by her loving son. She is reunited in heaven with her husband and her legacy will live on and be cherished by her son Jay (Anne-Marie) Jolley, and her 3 grandchildren James (Jett), Wheelock ( Lock) and Zelda Claire (Zellie) Jolley.
A private graveside service took place on Tuesday July 23. Donations in her honor may be placed with the Alzheimer’s Association.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 5401 Hwy. 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
