Samuel E. Griffin, 83, of Hixson, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 20, 2016. He was born August 23, 1933 in Lakeview, Georgia to the late Reverend James Luther Griffin and Lillie Willie Lee Wooden Griffin. Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by brothers, James Griffin, Ben Griffin, and Reverend Willis Griffin; sisters, Lola Dames, Mary Nell Nance, and Betty Lou Griffin.
Mr. Griffin was a Born Again Christian, who served his Lord, his country and his family to the end. He loved to watch his grandchildren as they participated in music and sports activities.
He was a career United States Marine serving 20 years, retiring as a captain. A United States Marine Corps veteran serving during the Vietnam War, he also had the honor of serving on Marine Embassy duty in Ireland and Yugoslavia. He later retired from TVA where he was a security officer.
He was an active member of Abba’s House where he sang faithfully in the choir and served as a greeter. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Hanna and church friends going on trips to the Holy Land.
He was a master gardener who loved to share his bounty with family and friends. Mr. Griffin was an avid sports fan and would often have several TVs and radios on at the same time so he did not miss a moment of the action.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Hanna C. Griffin; daughters, Angie (Terry) McGregor and Deanna (Bill) Hopkins; grandchildren, Dillon McGregor, Samuel Brandt McGregor, Silvey McGregor; and Hanna Hopkins.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, November 23 at Abba’s House with Pastor Ron Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-7 Tuesday evening.
