She was born and raised in South Pittsburgh, Tennessee and enjoyed the majority of her married life in Lakesite, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Herbert Sewell Brown, Jr. and Anna Mae Raulston Brown early pioneer settlers of Marion County. Rose was also preceded in death by a grandson, Alan Kirby; brothers, A. W. Brown, Herbert Sewell Brown, Robert L. Brown, and Jerry Raymond Brown; sisters, Imogene Brown and Martha Jo Daniel; Rose’s husband, E. W. Phillips, Jr., whom she shared her life for 60 years. She was honored to be a part of two five generation family lineages.
Rose was a former member of Hixson Church of Christ, and currently a member of East Ridge Church of Christ. Rose loved to travel and enjoyed being a member of the Air Stream Camping Club and the Tennessee Unit Air Stream Club but her true passion was always her family.
Rose is survived by her two daughters, Dian (John) Kirby and Emily (Carlos) Raines; son, Terry Phillips; five grandchildren, Guy Kirby and Roy Kirby, Michael Phillips, Charlotte Phillips and Jordan Raines; three great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 pm on Friday, April 21, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Graveside services will follow at 3 pm on Friday at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Chapel of Devotion with Minister Charles Cochran officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rose’s name to the East Ridge Church of Christ, 951 McBrien Road, Chattanooga, TN 37412 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 7625 Hamilton park Drive, Suite 6, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN.
