Robert was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee the son of the late Robert and Sue Helen Walker Medearis. Bob served our country during World War II in the United States Navy as a Medical Corpsman. He received his undergraduate degree from Cumberland University and his Master of Religious Education from Southern Baptist Theological Semeinary. Brother Bob started his ministry in 1951 serving as Minister of Education and Associate Pastor for several different churches. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Hixson, where he has served since 1973 as an Associate Pastor. Robert leaves behind scores of people who testify how he has enriched their lives with his teaching, listening, praying, and nurturance. His life itself has taught a beautiful lesson – that following Jesus means allowing the spirit of Jesus to love people through you.
Robert was preceded in death by his longtime companion and wife of 56 years, Betty Jane Medearis.
He leaves behind his two children Suzanne Kelly and John Daniel Medearis, their spouses John Kelly and Deborah Medearis, and grandchildren Lauren (Tommy) Sedman, Erin (John) Hangstefer, Sheena (John) Gamble, Tim Medearis, and Rebecca Medearis; five great grandchildren, Kelly Grace and Thomas Sedman, Jane Hangstefer, and Finn Robert and John Reed Gamble.
The family will receive from 10 am until 12:30 pm on Friday, December 11, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
We respectfully request that "social distancing", wearing masks at all times, and all CDC measures be followed at the funeral home.
There will be a private celebration for the family only on Friday at 1 pm with his new place with Jesus at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Reverend Angie McGregor officiating. Interment will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
