From humble beginnings in East Brainerd, Dick was a self-made man. He put himself through college at the University of Chattanooga, while supporting his family.
He was an avid photographer, and a trumpet player during college, and pursued an insurance career after college.
He started his career with Mass Mutual and later formed his own company, Creative Planning, where he was an insurance broker.
Dick was an avid outdoorsman his entire life. He loved fishing and hunting, and traveled all over the world pursuing his passion. He loved camping and he passed this love onto his sons, who all participated in the Boy Scouts.
He also remained an avid photographer his entire life, and never went anywhere without his Nikon camera. Dick also loved music, and later in life joined the Chattanooga Senior Orchestra, and also a jazz band.
He was an outstanding musician, a shooter who loaded his own ammo, and fisherman who tied his own flies.
Dick learned how to fly and co-owned a plane for a few years, and he flew his family to Florida on family vacations.
He loved life and excelled at everything he did.
Dick loved people and seemed to know everyone.
He was Past President of the Mountain City Club, on the board of the Cherokee Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, a board volunteer of CADAS, played trumpet with the Chattanooga Community Orchestra, and was a member of Ducks Unlimited.
Dick was always cheerful and fun to be around and made everyone laugh and feel special.
He will be greatly missed.
