He was born May 30, 1927 to Hugh Finley and Mary Willie Broyles LaRue who preceded him in death. He was in the U. S. Navy and Reserves from 1945 to 1954. His career covered a broad range of sales including Standard Brands, Western Auto, Real Estate and insurance. Ralph was an active member of Red Bank United Methodist Church and the Shaw-Murray Sunday School Class for nearly 50 years. He enjoyed his service to his church most through music by singing in the Men’s Chorus and leading the singing in his Sunday School Class.
In his retirement years, he was an AARP-55 Alive Driving course instructor for several years. Ralph was a volunteer thru the Red Cross at Memorial North Park Hospital.
Mr. LaRue was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Albert LaRue; brother and sister-in-law, Hugh Finley and Vivian LaRue, Jr.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kenneth and Harriett Nease and George and Eleanor Collins; brothers-in-law, Rex Burnette, Blake Jones, Ed Renfro, Walker Conn, Lew Harrison, J.B, Cecil and Carl Rhudy.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years on Feb. 6, Nonye Rhudy LaRue; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa LaRue and Levoy Knowles of McMinnville; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Darla Hunter LaRue of Cartersville, GA; grandchildren, Bryan Knowles, of McMinnville and girlfriend – Samantha Redmond, of Knoxville, Andy and Chelsea Knowles of Cookeville, Julie and Jeremy Griffin, of Mableton, GA, and Michael LaRue and Sarah LaRue of Cartersville, GA; great grandson, Benjamin Griffin, of Mableton, GA; sisters, Selma LaRue Harrison, of Nashville and Virginia LaRue Burnette, of Loudon; sisters-in-law, Eunice Jones and Annis Conn of Tazewell, VA, Mildred Renfro of Norton, VA, Tiny and David Anderson of Bristol, VA and Esther Rhudy of Beckley, West VA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Betty Rhudy of Delaware;
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm on Wednesday and 10 to 11 am on Thursday at the North Chapel.
Services for Ralph will be held at 11 am on Thursday at the North Chapel with Rev. Jeff Lambert of Red Bank United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Shaw – Murray Sunday School Class of Red Bank United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ralph’s name to Red Bank United Methodist Church, 3800 Dayton Blvd., Red Bank, TN 37415 or Hospice of Chattanooga, P. O. Box 19269, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
