at the age of 84, where she was reunited with her precious husband and best friend of 56
years, Rev. Bert Jones, and her son, Rev. Birch Jones, who was a great encourager and helper
to her after the death of his dad.
Peggy was born on Nov. 28, 1939 to the late Lucille and Grover Crick in Schlater, MS near Greenwood, MS. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Lloyd Crick and a sister, Neva Lovell.
Peggy’s faith was most important to her. She confessed her faith in Jesus Christ and
was baptized while in the 8th grade at First Baptist Church, Indianola, MS. She was a member
of Red Bank Baptist church where her husband was Associate Pastor for 25 years. She taught
three year olds in Sunday school for 34 year and was active in RBBC Caring Hands, a ministry
to those who are unable to attend church programs on a regular basis. She faithfully
supported her husband in every endeavor in the four churches they served from 1969-2012.
Prior to serving Red Bank Baptist Church they served Westwood Baptist Church in Cleveland,
TN.
Peggy was a graduate of Mississippi College where she received a Bachelor of Science
degree in Elementary Education. She taught elementary school in Alabama, Louisiana,
Mississippi, and Tennessee. She taught in Cleveland, TN City Schools and Hamilton County
Schools before retiring in 1995. Peggy was greatly influenced by her fourth grade teacher, Mrs.
Rose Harper in Indianola, MS, where Peggy attended 1st - 12th grade. She credited her love
for teaching to Mrs, Harper and modeled her own teaching after her.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Fondra Magee (Tom), of Coeur d Alene, ID and is
Nana to six grandchildren; Mason Magee (Kailey), Carson Magee, Juliana Jones Beaton (Eli), Holt Jones, Carolina Jones, and Zac Jones; brother, Doyle Crick of , Maryville, TN and sister, Thelma Riley of Fayetteville, AR.
The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday, March 16, at Red Bank Baptist Church, 4000 Dayton Blvd., Chattanooga, TN 37415. A Celebration of Peggy’s life will follow at 1 pm on Saturday at Red Bank Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
