Nancy Lorraine Whittington went home to be with the Lord on August 11, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Nancy was born September 19, 1927 in Moline, Illinois and graduated from United Township High School in 1944. Nancy was a bank secretary and receptionist for eighteen years before moving to Hixson, Tennessee.
After her move she volunteered at Memorial Northpark Hospital and was a senior swimmer at the Y. Nancy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Red Bank. She was the original “do it yourself” mother who taught us “If you can’t afford to buy it – make it!” She taught her children everything from oil painting to wood working. She also instilled in us a lifelong love of the beauties of nature. But her greatest achievement was seeing that her children got to church every week and came to know the Lord as their savior at an early age.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Elmer Whittington. Survivors include daughters: Sharon (Jerry) Johnson; Krista (Jack) Anderson; Brenda (Richard) Forsythe; son, Wayne (Joanne) Whittington; sisters, Muriel Lovestrand and very special friend, Eunice Miles. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, August 14, at Calvary Baptist Church, Red Bank. Services will be held at 11:00 with Brother Dwight Martin officiating. A “living” visitation has already been held around her bedside with family and friends singing hymns and celebrating her home going.
Nancy has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the youth department of Calvary Baptist Church.
