Mary Ruth Houston

Mary Ruth Houston, 89, of Hixson, died peacefully Sunday, March 13, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born March 29, 1926 in Loudon, Tennessee to the late James E. and Margaret Milsaps, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Robert “Smoke” Houston, brother, Floyd “Buddy” Milsaps, sister, Lennie Lorraine Collis, sons-in-law, Michael S. Wheeler, Sr. and Kenneth “Weasel” Davis. Mrs. Houston was Baptist. She was a big supporter of Red Bank baseball and tennis.

Survivors include two daughters, Anne H. Wheeler and Jeane H. Davis; seven grandchildren, Mike (Amy) Wheeler, Jr., Lori Bailey, Amy (William) Travis, Becca Pool, Robert “Al” Davis, C. J. (Candice) Davis; Matthew Davis; nine great grandchildren, Stephen, Mary Ruth and Julia Wheeler, Erin Bailey (Jack) Kite, Harrison and Grace Travis, Megan Pool, Holden and Nolan Davis; brother, James Milsaps, Jr.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 12:30 Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Steven Grainger and Rev. Terry Shannon officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-9 Wednesday evening.

The family would like to extend special thanks to caregivers at home, Life Care of Hixson, Parkridge Hospital and Hospice of Chattanooga for all their care and support.
