Mary Nelle Thrash Childress

Mary Nelle was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area. She was a graduate of Hixson High School where she played basketball and a graduate of Erlanger Baroness School of Nursing. Mary Nelle retired as a nurse from Hamilton County Health Department. She was a member of Red Bank United Methodist Church, the Carver Tarwater Sunday School Class, served on the St. Luke’s Ministry and was a former choir member.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, George A. Thrash; her parents, Elizabeth and Thomas Wilkey and several brothers and sisters.

Mary is survived by her husband, Robert Childress; two sons, George G. Thrash and Marshall L. Thrash; stepdaughters, Pam Forrest, Becky Kirk; grandchildren, Laura T. Rice, Jason Thrash, Gabriel Thrash and Marsha Thrash; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Red Bank United Methodist Church.

Services for Mary Nelle will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Red Bank United Methodist Church, 3800 Dayton Blvd., Red Bank, TN 37415 with Rev. Jeff Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary Nelle’s name to the Memorial Fund at Red Bank United Methodist Church.
