Julie was born to Dr. and Mrs. Edward George Johnson on July 25th, 1946, in Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from Girl’s Preparatory School and received a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Chattanooga. She continued painting, concentrating on landscape and the figure, and taught Art in Montpelier, VT, Pittsburg, PA and Chattanooga.
In 1987 Julie began writing for the Chattanooga Times Free Press in the Lifestyle section, best known for her column, Town Talk.
On December 22, 1990, Julie married the love of her life, the infamous Professor of English at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Dr. Michael Richards. Her two children, Kate and Zach and her grandchildren brought her happiness throughout her life.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Edward George Johnson, and her husband, Dr. Michael Richards.
She is survived by her daughter, Kate Mink, her son, Zach Effron (Lauren), her four granddaughters, Sara Jane Landry and Adele, Emma and Lucy Effron, her brother E George Johnson, her sister, Sally Chazen (Gary), and brother, Michael Andrews Johnson.
A private family service will be held at National Cemetery.
