She was born on January 3, 1942 to D. Fletcher and Antoinette Shipley, who preceded her in death. Judy was a graduate of the Bright School and Girls Preparatory School. She was presented at the 1961 Cotton Ball. After high school, Judy went on to attend the University of Tennessee. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in Social Work and earned her Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She retired as a middle school guidance counselor with the Hamilton County Schools after over 30 years of service.
Judy grew up in First Baptist Church of Chattanooga where she and her parents were members. She was an avid dancer, enjoyed singing and all things science. Judy also had a great love for dogs. In her earlier years she raised Great Danes whom she would show. In the 1960's she had the exciting opportunity to show her prize Danes, Vodka and Daiquiri, in the Westminster Kennel Club show at Madison Square Garden.
Judy is survived by her husband and love of her life of 53 years, Roy, daughter, Shelley, and devoted pups, Puff and Rambo. She was also blessed a host of nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 21, 2023 from 4-7 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home on Highway 153. The funeral service will be Saturday, April 22nd at 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Chattanooga, 401 Gateway Avenue, with Dr. Thomas Quisenberry officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
