A native Chattanoogan she attended Central High School, graduating from Springville High School, Springville, AL and Draughton Business College, Birmingham, AL. At 19 she accepted Christ and was baptized by Reverend Smith at Alton Park Baptist Church. She had lived in Valdosta, GA, San Antonio, TX, and Dover, Delaware. Following her husband’s retirement from the Air Force, they returned to their native Chattanooga. As a loving homemaker, her life centered around her family. Her interests included decorating, gardening, crafts and collecting recipes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles W. Thomas and Velma Tate Thomas; husband, Clarence Harvey Marr, Jr.
Joyce is survived by her son, Clarence “Bud” H. Marr, III, Richmond, VA; daughter, Karen (Max) Smith, Lenoir City, TN; brothers, Charles A Thomas, Ringgold, GA, Max (Sue) Thomas, Hazel Green, AL; sister, Dana Thomas, Red Bank, TN; sister-in-law, Dorothy Marr Carson, Lake Jackson, TX; several nieces and nephews; and her special caring friends, Katy Hamby, Misty Jo Hale, Rosemary Best and Pat Gross.
The family wishes to thank Amedisys Hospice for their care and support.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the North Chapel.
Services for Joyce will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the North Chapel with Rev. Bert Jones officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joyce’s name to the American Heart Association or Amedisys Hospice.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
