Sue graduated from Central High School in 1964 and from the Erlanger School of Nursing in 1968. In her early years, she was a Registered Nurse at Erlanger and Memorial Hospitals.
In 1979 she joined Blue Cross where she organized and directed a staff of RN’s who reviewed policy claims. She retired from Blue Cross in 2001.
Sue was an active member of First Centenary United Methodist Church and the Morgan Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Pickering and her first husband, James R. Nowlin, Sr.
She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Howard; mother, Agnes Pickering; sister, Ann (Bob) Himmelsbach; children, James (Karrie) R. Nowlin, Jr., and Pamela Clark; step-children, Richard (Kathy) Howard, James Howard, Glenn (Marie) Howard, and Laura (Ricky) McEvoy; and several grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 12 Noon at First Centenary United Methodist Church. A memorial service conducted by Dr. Douglas Fairbanks, and Dr. David Harr is scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Burial service will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Centenary United Methodist Church and to Volunteers In Medicine.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Nathan H. Mull for his dedicated treatment to Sue over several years. We also thank Hospice of Chattanooga for their vital assistance during the past 10 days.
