I met John in the Army in Vietnam. We were  in the same platoon and of course both being from Georgia became friends. His friendship made a bad existence so much better. Because of John I learned to laugh again and enjoy my life as much as one could in a war/conflict
such as the Vietnam confict. John was our armored Personel carrier Driver. We were together in the same squad 24/7 for at least 6 months. John was fortunate to get the company clerk position. I still saw John every day when he would come out to what ever location we were in to deliver our mail. John also mail numerous items I had purchased in from Vietnam locals back to my home in Georgia.
We made it home to Georgia and John and his mom came to Atlanta for a visit. Then I drove up to visit John in Rome once. Later on we reconnected and conversed by email and phone. He came down to Atlanta in 2012 and we went to lunch. John was so easy to talk with and share stories. He would tell me about his Cadillac collection and Jeep collection and especially his dog Minnie. I miss John so much.
If anyone that might read my remembrance of John you are welcomed to email me and share what you know of John's passing and his life. I know he has two cousins in Chattanooga, GA and I send my regards to them.

I served in Vietnam in the same platoon with John. He was the driver of our armored personnel carrier, then John became company clerk. We had being from Georgia in common. After Vietnam John and his mother came down to Atlanta to visit. Later I drove up to Rome to visit John. Many years later (2016) we got together in Atlanta and had lunch. I had invited him to visit at Thanksgiving for lunch but he was spending Thanksgiving with his two cousins in North Georgia. I felt I was so fortunate to have known John and he will be missed very much.
He made my tour in Vietnam less tense and more tolerable.

John was a great friend and always ready to help whoever needed it. We would talk about every week. I just wished I had been able to had been there. 

John your are the greatest friend anyone could have. 

My sister and I  were John's 1st cousins, born in Rome within a year of each other.  We were close friends until we had to move when we were 5 and 6 years old.  We did reconnect some years  later, though infrequently, and found the same kind, funny, friendly, very smart guy.   
He was a good friend to everyone who  aporeciated him. Rarely without a dog and a Cadillac.


Wrote earlier.  Just want John's family to know he will be missed.  John was John.  Loved irregardless of circumstances. Always ready with an opinion.  Worked with him at the Cartersville post office.  Spent time with him at conventions.  God's  love and comfort  surround all  of you.


John will be missed! He was a good coworker & friend to me! He was funny & always had an interesting story to tell about himself & also about Minnie! John’s family will be in my thoughts & prayers.
