John was born in Anniston, Alabama to the late Sam and Kathleen Jones. He served our country in the United States Army and then served in the Army National Guard of Alabama. John was a retired salesmen from Reeves Tackle and Fishing Supplies. He was a member of Burks United Methodist Church and the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class. John was an avid fisherman, always had a quick joke for his family and friends. He also enjoyed making and designing fishing lures and was strong supporter of his community.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Jones.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Elkins Jones, retired executive secretary at Contact of Chattanooga; his daughter, Leigh Ann Johnston; son, Clinton (Mari) Jones; grandchildren, Spencer (Lauren) Johnston and Sydney Johnston; great grandson, Anders; sisters, Carolyn (Jay) Stokley, Hilda Welch, and Linda (Tim) Kenney; brother, Gene Jones; many nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home and we are asking all friends to meet us at the cemetery on Tuesday, September 8 at around 10:45.
A Celebration of Johnny’s life will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, September 8, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend Beth Sullivan officiating.
