John Thomas Hinch, SR, 94, of Hixson, TN went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 16, 2018. Tommy was born in Winchester, TN on April 8, 1924 to Millard and Maud Hinch. He moved to Hixson, TN in 1936 and at that time became a member of Hixson United Methodist Church where he faithfully served on the board of Trustees, was a Sunday school teacher, and was a devoted member of the Sam McConnell Sunday school class his entire adult life.
Tommy was a 1943 graduate of Hixson High School, and upon graduation went on to serve our country in World War II. He served in the 15th Army Air Corps, in the 97th Bomber Group from 1943 – 1946. After serving in the war, he began his career with DuPont in Hixson, TN where he retired after thirty-three years in 1982. Tommy also owned an excavation and earth-moving company from 1967 – 2010. This business provided both income and joy to Tommy. He could be recognized for years driving all over the Hixson and Chattanooga areas in his little green dump truck with “HINCH” painted on the back of it! Tommy also had the distinction of being a sixty-seven year Mason with the Volunteer Masonic Lodge #549.
In 1960, Tommy married the love of his life, Margaret Crawley Hinch. They were married for twenty-seven wonderful years, until her passing in 1988. He is survived by their three children, son Bronce Atchley (Pat), daughter Suzanne Brown (Robert), son John Hinch (Lynn), two grandsons, Jonathon Dodd and Justin Fairbanks (Shian), three granddaughters, Jordan Hinch, Cameron Hinch, and Logan Hinch, and one precious great-grandson, Justice Cruz Fairbanks. Tommy is also survived by niece Kathy Trent (Frank), several great nieces and nephews, and dear friend Nancy Elliott.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 19th at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Sunday August 19th at the funeral home with Rev. Shell Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Military and Masonic honors.
