He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Cora Youngblood and two sons, James A. Horton, Jr., and baby Nikki.
Jim was the owner of J & J Contractors, Inc., located on West Main Street in Chattanooga. He was a former president of the AGC where he served two years in that position. He was an avid traveler, golfer and woodworker. Jim spent many hours in his woodworking shop with his grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
He was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife, Beverly R. Horton, of Hixson, TN, three children, Debbie (Richard) Dedmon, of Hixson, TN, Chris Horton, of Ft. Myers, FL, Robin Wheeler, of East Ridge, TN, step-son, Michael Earl (Mindy) Dixon, of Atlanta, GA, three grandchildren, Kendra Michelle (Jeremy) Neill, Amanda (Chris) Childress, Sara Davies, three step grandchildren, Taylor, Kaitlyn and Parker James Dixon, four great grandchildren, Chandler Neill, Marley Davies, Everett James Childress, Forest Lee Childress, brother-in-law, Lamar (Martha) Rains, and two nephews, Parker and Scott Rains.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 23, 2018 , in the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. Fred Steelman and Pastor Josh Lancaster officiating. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, Tennessee.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2018, at the funeral home.
