Born in Chattanooga on June 19, 1947, Jack was raised in Ft. Oglethorpe, is a 1965 graduate of Rossville High School and graduated from Chattanooga State Technical Community College. He served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and retired from Lowe’s Corporation with 18 years of service as a store manger.
He married Nancy Shacklette Smith in 1967 and had two sons, Brian P. Smith and Gregory A. Smith. Jack loved his family, baseball, UGA football, fishing and traveling. The joy of his life were his grandchildren, Trent Smith and Heidi Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Eleanor Smith and sister, Helen Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Smith, children Brian Smith and Greg (Natalie) Smith; grandchildren, Trent Smith and Heidi Smith; sisters Judy (Don) Rossell and Netha Crawford, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, October 14, and 10:30 am to 11:30 am on Wednesday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with Minister C. G. Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Jack’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, 223 Rosa L. Parks Avenue, Suite 301, Nashville, TN 37203.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
