Guelda Thornton Malone

Guelda Thornton Malone, a resident of Chattanooga, departed her earthly home and entered her heavenly home on September 2, 2018 at the age of 70. Guelda was surrounded by her beloved family and friends after an eight year, on-again, off-again, fierce battle with cancer.

She was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Guelda T. Thornton and was succeeded in death by an infant son, Stewart. Survivors include her loving husband and sweat-heart of 50 years, Benny Malone; children, Marty (Heather) Malone, Steven (Rummer) Malone; grandchildren, Ella Malone, Maxwell Malone, and Brynn Malone; Brother Chuck (MaryJane) Thornton and sister Ginnye Yoder; several nieces and nephews.

Guelda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a renowned quilter and crafter, consistent member of Oakwood Baptist Church, stalwart sister in the Order of the Eastern Star, Hixson Chapter 310 “Oma” to her grandchildren, surrogate mother to many, and wise council to all she encountered.

For Hamilton County Department of Education, Guelda was an exceptional bookkeeper for multiple schools and transitioned to central office where she worked in the payroll office. Upon retiring from HCDE she was the Office Manager for the Chattanooga Theatre Centre as well as winning volunteer of the year for being a firm but loving stage manager. For the last several years she has worked in the office of Dr. Mary Seal an ophthalmology specialist.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 8, at 3:00 at Oakwood Baptist Church with Reverend Ken Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

The family will receive friends at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home Friday from 4-8 and on Saturday at the church from 2-3.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Chattanooga Colon Cancer Foundation.
