He was born March 31, 1950 in Springfield, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Wade and Geraldine Adams Matthews, and sister, Diane Matthews Dobbs.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Royce Jean Matthews; nieces, Melanie Gibbs, Dauna (Bill) Higney, and Moira Dobbs (Will) Smith.
He was a 1968 graduate of East Ridge High School, in East Ridge, TN, and held an Associates of Science degree in Business Administration from Cleveland
State Community College. Gerald served in the United States Army
Reserve from 1970– 1976. He retired after 20 years of service from Siskin Steel and Supply Company.
Gerald was best known by his many friends for his lifelong avid love of horses, especially American Saddle. He was a member of Rock Spring Methodist Church.
A Celebration of Gerald’s Life will be held at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Saturday March 23, 2024, at 3:00 PM with Reverend Joel Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until service time.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions can be made in his memory, to Rock Spring Methodist Church, 3477 Peavine Road, Rock Spring, Georgia 30739.
