Otis was born March 25, 1929 in Huntsville, Alabama. He graduated from Central High School. George Otis retired from DuPont with over 40 years of service. He was a member and longtime usher at Mile Straight Baptist Church. Otis was a member of the Builders Class and was very active and supportive of the Jewish Ministries.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dwight Hines and a daughter, Tammy Smith.
Otis is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jimmie Coker Smith; three children, Todd Smith and wife Jennifer, Angela Lewis and husband Jerry and Tyler Smith; 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Hospice and their staff, Star Lackey, Kristi Newman and Chaplain DeWayne Renfro for the love and care that was given to Otis.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the North Chapel.
Graveside services for Otis will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Brother Bill Morgan and Dr. Tommy Goss officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Otis’s name to Hospice of Chattanooga, P. O. Box 19269, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
