He was a 1936 graduate of Central High School and an Edmondson Business College graduate. He was a World War II veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star for service in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for the United States Postal Inspection Service for many years and was a real estate broker after retirement.
He was a very devout member of St. John United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for 50 years before retiring at age 90.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Elwyn and Maude Gould Harrison; brothers, Morris, Segar and Charles Harrison; and a sister Betty Moseley.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Bettye Ingle Harrison, daughter, Elwynn Schwartz and son-in-law, Hal Schwartz of Chattanooga; son, George Kenneth Harrison, Jr. and Wife Melanie Harrison of Savannah, Georgia; two granddaughters, Karen Johnson (Art), Chattanooga, and Susan Crispell (Mark), Leland, North Carolina; four grandsons, George Kenneth “Scoot” Harrison, III, Denver, Colorado; Zach Harrison, Wilmington, North Carolina, Whit Harrison, McLean, Virginia, their mother, Kay Olive, McLean, Virginia; Skip Schwartz (Holly), Tokyo, Japan; four great-grandchildren, Caroline Reide, Nicholas Johnson, Skylar Schwartz and Blayden Schwartz; sisters and brother-in-law the Late Harold Ingle (Betty), Andrea Berry (Wayne), Ed Ingle “Catch”, Peggy Harrison and the late Charles “Bo” Harrison, Alice Harrison, and a very special caregiver, Rebecca Crain.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 2, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at St. John United Methodist Church with Dr. Ken LaDuke and Rev. Dallas Beck officiating. The family will attend the entombment service on Monday at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with George K. Harrison, III “Scoot”, Zachary Harrison, Whitaker Harrison, Art Johnson, Mark Crispell, Wayne Berry, and Edward Ingle serving as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Sunday at the church from 1-3 p.m.
