Fred Jefferson Cagle Sr.

Fred Jefferson Cagle Sr. passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on February 8, 1940, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas A. Cagle and Gracie Ann Watkins; his brothers, Thomas Cagle and Jack Cagle; and his sisters, Inez Jones, Betty Lee, and Ellie Griffith Cagle.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years who he cherished, Linda Sue Cagle, and their children: Fred Jefferson (Tonya) Cagle Jr., Susan (Tracy) Bayless, James Cagle, and Becky (Bill) Wright. He was a proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Fred dedicated much of his life to hard work, spending many years at Payne’s Pitstop until retiring due to health issues. In the 1970s, he found great joy serving as an auxiliary policeman, a role that brought him a deep sense of pride and purpose. He was an avid fan of Jerry Lee Lewis and could often be found enjoying classic westerns on television.

One of the moments he cherished most was his spiritual journey—being saved and baptized in July 2018. His faith brought him great comfort and peace in his later years.

The family appreciates all thoughts and prayers during this time of loss.

Visitation for Fred will be Wednesday, April 2, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 12:00 PM Wednesday. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
