She was born in Boone, North Carolina, lived in many cities, and settled in Chattanooga. She stayed home to raise her children, but returned to work and retired from TVA.
Joanne was an extremely gifted artist and seamstress, and with those talents made exquisite wedding gowns. She enjoyed travelling, and with her husband Oscar, they had the opportunity to visit many countries during their marriage. She loved to entertain and host parties. Joanne brought joy to anyone that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Oscar Ward Harmon, her son Paul Berkley Harmon, and her parents, Bynum McCoy and Clara Shell Grogan.
Joanne is survived by her daughter, Leslie (Jeff) Chastain; grandchildren, Randi Chambers, and Ryan (Teanna) Chastain; and 3 great-grandchildren, Luke Chambers, Coraline Chambers, and Gavin Harmon.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday January 26, 2024, at 12:30 PM in the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, with Rev. David McNabb and Rev. Ken Young officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until service time at North Chapel.
