She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren R. Davenport; her mother and father, Helen Long Giles and William David Giles, Sr.; three brothers, William David Giles, Jr., Nicholas Sebastian Giles, and John Joseph Giles. Three sisters, Helen Elizabeth Giles Sivley, Therese Catherine Giles Paullus, and Mary Agnes Giles Farmer.
She is survived by her sister, Ann Gene Giles Respess, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Emma Claire, a lifelong Catholic, was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. She received her BS degree from the University of Chattanooga, and her Master’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She taught for almost 40 years in both the Chattanooga and Hamilton County School Systems before her retirement. Throughout the years, she loved and enjoyed the Arts, Theater, and her many travels as well as the warm friendship she had with her husband, Warren’s children, Bob (deceased),
Sara, Susan and Dorothy Arwin.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, May 7, at the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul with the Very Rev. J. David Carter, Pastor and Rector, JCL, JV officiating.
Burial will take place at the Soddy Presbyterian Cemetery in Soddy Daisy where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Warren.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Ascension Living Alexian Village Health Center, Ascension Living Valley Residence, and Hearth Hospice of Chattanooga for all their love and care of Emma Claire while in their care.
