Following graduation from Jonesboro, GA High School, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was a decorated Korean war veteran. After his discharge he worked for General Motors in Atlanta for 16 years. In 1971 he moved to Chattanooga to start Ed Wright Chevrolet and later Ed Wright City Dodge. He was active in the Chattanooga Automobile Dealers Association for many years and served a term as president.
Ed was a member of Signal Mtn. Presbyterian Church. During his retirement years, he spent time in Orange Beach, AL enjoying boating, fishing and crabbing.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Helen Wright and his brother William Buxton Wright.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Sligh Wright; son Edward (Deborah) Wright, Jr.; daughter Kelly (Chuck) Boaz; son Steven; grandchildren Alexander Lee, Ashley Lee and Samantha Wright; and brothers Joseph Wright and Donald Wright.
Funeral services will be held at Signal Mtn. Presbyterian Church on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m., with the Reverend Dr. William Dudley officiating.
Interment will follow at the National Cemetery of Chattanooga.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel (Hwy 153).
