Dwight Claxton Newby

Dwight C. Newby, 66, of Ooltewah, TN, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at his residence. He was the son of the late Clint C. and Martha Rector Newby. Dwight was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Pleasant Dale Baptist Church. He graduated Hixson High School in 1966.

Dwight was a Boilermaker by trade for 35 years and excelled at his craft. He was a proud member of Boilermaker’s Lodge 454, retiring in 2006.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Melista Colston Newby, daughters Amy (Mark) Tillman and Sara Pickard; granddaughters Lacy Pickard and Emma Grace Tillman; brother Gary D. (Kathy) Newby of Kingston, TN and sister Sharon (Jim) Clark of Gainesville, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

Dwight loved dirt track racing, reading science fiction, watching black and white movies, and doing anything Lacy told him to do.

His favorite charities were The Salvation Army and St. Jude’s Hospital.

The family will receive friends at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel Friday, August 21, 2015 from 4 – 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 22, at 2:00 p.m. at Smyrna Cemetery, Evensville, TN.
