She was born on May 25, 1918 to Charles Oren Hon and Mary Beck Hon in Chattanooga. She graduated from City High School in 1935 and attended the University of Chattanooga. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and had many friends in the ADPi Book Club. Elizabeth worked for many years as the assistant manager of the Northside Branch of American National Bank, now SunTrust. During this time she was a president of Credit Women International. She was a fourth generation member of First Methodist (First Centenary United Methodist) Church and a member of one of the founding families of Chattanooga.
She was preceded in death by her sister Eleanor, her father, brother Daniel, her mother, brother Charles, and husband Arthur (Bud) Poynton, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter Carolyn P. Sandlin and son Arthur (Joanna) Poynton III, grandchildren Rike (Pam) Sandlin, Steven (Annie) Sandlin, Christopher (Jessica) Poynton, four great-grandchildren, sister Margaret Snodgrass Ross, and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank all caregivers and friends at Hickory Valley Retirement Community and NHC Parkwood for their loving care of Elizabeth.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 28, from 12 (Noon) to 2 p.m. at First Centenary United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Kate Lyle West Chapel of First Centenary. Burial will be in Chattanooga Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Centenary United Methodist Church Music Ministry or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
