She was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area and a graduate of Central High School class of 1948. She was a faithful member of Hixson First Baptist Church where she served as teacher of the Agape Sunday School Class. In honor of her service the class it is now named the Dot Gross Sunday School Class. Dot was driven by her heart for people and her love for spreading the word of God worldwide. One of her last great trips was ministering in the Ukraine to the children and their families. She was an avid golfer and also volunteered at the Pat Boone Bethel Bible Village Golf Tournament and many other golf events held in the Chattanooga area.
She was the daughter of the late William T. and Evelyn Locklear and also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Lewis and three brothers, Delmar Pittman, Robert Locklear and Jerry Locklear.
Dot is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, George F. Gross; children, Pamela Gross Taylor and husband David of Birmingham, AL, Franklin Gross of Hixson; three grandsons, Sean (Ashley) Taylor, Ryan (Erica) Taylor and Matthew (Mellissa) Taylor; two great grandchildren, Bennett Grace Taylor and Pierce Thomas Taylor all of Birmingham, AL; brother, Bill (Marie) Locklear of Cleveland, TN; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Locklear of Cohutta, GA and Mary Ellen Locklear of Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 pm on Thursday at the North Chapel.
A celebration of life service for Dot will be held at 2:30 pm on Thursday, August 7, at the North Chapel with Reverend Terry Shannon. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Dot’s name to Hixson First Baptist Church, 5800 Grubb Road, Hixson, TN 37343 or Bethel Bible Village 3001 Hamill Road, Hixson, TN 37343.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
