She grew up in Englewood, Tennessee but lived more than 40 years with her husband and children on a farm in Whitwell, Tennessee. Soon after her husband died she moved in with her daughter in Chattanooga.
After receiving her teaching certificate of the Tennessee Wesleyan College she began teaching in a one room schoolhouse in McMinn County. She later taught Title I reading at Whitwell Elementary School until retiring in 1975.
She enjoyed her life in the country; gardening, freezing and canning fruit and vegetables from her garden. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. In the last ten years she has knit scarfs and over 100 dish cloths to give to family and friends.
She was a member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church and the Sarah Class.
Her husband Lewis N. Godsey, a son, Brent Godsey as well as two sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Joyce Godsey of Chattanooga; granddaughter, Kathy (Jim) Leamon of Highland Beach Florida. She was also very close to her niece and nephews, Peggy (Tom) Raines, Cullen (Merry) Brown, Ronnie (Sandy) Long, Michael (Michelle) Boles, Kevin, Terry, and Mark Boles and their respective families; also loved are special friends who were like family, Nick & Tammy Thomas and their children Kelsey and Hunter.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mark Davis officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the North Chapel.
