David was born in Chattanooga to Walter B. Collins(Shadow) and Helen Ewing Collins. He lived in Chattanooga, TN. until 1996 when he moved to the Suck Creek Mountain Community. He was a member of the Suck Creek Mountain Volunteer Fire Department where he also served on the board. David was a graduate of Red Bank High School and the University of Tennessee. He retired from TVA in 1994. David was a member of the Red Bank Baptist Church where he sang in the adult choir and the Prime Time Singers. His Passion was Barbershop singing. He was a member of the Cleveland Barbershop chorus ( Sounds of Tennessee) and a member of the Chattanooga Choo Choo chorus where he was a Barbershopper of the year in 1989, 92, 95, 98, and 1999. He served on the Dixie District Board of Directors from 1993 to 1998. He sang in many Barbershop Quartets, his latest and longest was with the Rock City Four. He sang on the International stage with the Nashville Music City Chorus.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Bernard and Helen Collins and his father and mother-in-law Robert T and Lillian Jarrell. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Carol Ann Jarrell Collins, sons David T. Collins of Nashville, Tennessee, Michael Collins (Colleen) of Libertyville, Illinois; two grandsons whom he adored, Harrison and Patrick; brother, Dr. Robert Collins (Caroleigh), and nephews Rob, Marc and Christian Collins; aunt Betty Carpenter; he is also survived by his beloved dog, Rascal
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 2, 2013 from 2-5 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel and on Monday, June 3, 2013 from 10 am – 11 am at Red Bank Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11am on Monday, June 3, 2013 at Red Bank Baptist Church with Dr. Fred Steelman and Rev. Brian Johnson officiating
Interment will follow, in Rankin Cemetery in Dunlap TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Suck Creek Mountain Fire Department
