Christine “Chris” Forrester Wood, age 87, passed away August 10, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Sydney Pearson Wood; her parents, Herman Golston Forrester and Minnie Lewis Forrester; her parents in-law, Sydney Hewitt Wood, MD, and Myra Pearson Wood; and her nephew, Paul Tatum.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Wood Davis and Cary P. Davis, of Chattanooga, Leslie Wood Tamashiro and Guy K. Tamashiro, of Honolulu, HI; two grandsons, Ryan Davis (Alison), of Chattanooga, and Tyler Davis (Christina), of Chattanooga; three granddaughters, Annalyse Tamashiro, of Boston, MA, Sarah Davis, of New York City, NY, and Sydney Tamashiro, of Starkville, MS; a great-granddaughter, Avienna Davis, of Chattanooga; a sister, Patricia Forrester Tatum and brother-in-law, Earl Tatum, of Aiken, SC; nieces, Judy Tatum, Amber Past, and Jane Napear; nephews, David Tatum (Karen), Greg Tatum, Mark Past (Therese), Stuart Napear (Lori), and Grant Napear; grand- nieces, Julia Tatum, Maria Tatum, Teja Past, Danielle Napear, and Emily Napear; grand-nephews, Trent Napear and Chase Napear.
Chris had a strong belief in God and was a member of Ooltewah United Methodist Church, The Alpha Circle of the United Methodist Women, and the Women Who Gather Bible Study. She was a founding member of a local book club. She served as a Girl Scout Brownie leader and was a PTA leader and home room mother for her daughters. Chris graduated from Chattanooga High School where she was a leader of her class and active in school activities. As a member of the class of ‘52, she was a member of the reunion committee that planned reunions for classmates into their 80’s. At the University of Chattanooga, she was a member of the Chi Omega Fraternity, and was active in her sorority and campus life.
Chris retired in 1985 from the DuPont Company in Chattanooga. She was a member of management in the Personnel Section. Prior to this, she held positions with the company as Confidential Salary Clerk, Confidential Secretary to top management, and Stenographer. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, furniture painting, and boating with her family on Lake Chickamauga.
Of the many roles Chris held in life, her role of loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother brought her the most joy. She was proud of her family and served as an outstanding role-model to those she left behind. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel. Visitation is at 1:00 pm and the service will be held at 2:30 pm.
