Christine Kreis Scarbrough

She was born October 16th, 1932 in Oakdale, TN to Henry and Hazel Kreis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Eugene (Gene) Scarbrough, Sr., two daughters, Teresa Gail and Debra Ann, her parents, Henry and Hazel Kreis, and two sisters, Macil West and Josephine Smith.

She is survived by her son, Carl Scarbrough, and daughter-in-law, Krystal; grandchildren, Heather (Ryan) Ewalt, Andrew (Katie) Scarbrough, and Stephen (Angela) Scarbrough; great-grandchildren, Ella, Annie, William, Bronze, and Banks; and she was praying for the adoption of great-grandchild number six.

Christine graduated in 1950 from Oakdale High School, where she met her sweetheart, Gene. They were married on October, 20, 1951, after he returned from serving in the Korean War with the Marines. Once Gene finished serving with the Marines, they moved to Chattanooga, where Christine worked for the City of Chattanooga, Railway Express and finally DuPont, where she worked for 27 years. Upon retirement, she enjoyed traveling the country with Gene, playing golf at Creeks Bend, visiting their winter home in Florida, playing the piano and organ, and watching her grandchildren at every game and performance.

She loved life and loved the Lord God with all her heart as was evident in her many volunteering roles. She played the piano for her SS class, volunteered in golf tournaments and hospitals, and was known in the community for delivering her famous strawberry cake.

There will be a public service held graveside at Hamilton Memorial Gardens on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 3pm, with the Rev. Bill Harvey officiating. Due to COVID please maintain social distancing and wear masks as appropriate. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Christine’s grandson’s (Stephen) ministry with YWAM Montana, a missionary training school and a cause she supported faithfully. Contributions can be made by check to YWAM Montana, leaving the memo line blank, and sending in care of Carl Scarbrough, 2001 Bay Pointe Dr., Hixson, Tn.37343.
