Christine Goodwin

Winnie Christine Goodwin, 93, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021, in the Life Care Center of Red Bank, Chattanooga, Tennessee. Christine was born July 1,1928 in Shiloh Community, near Springhill, Louisiana. She was the daughter of the late John Forrest and Tiddie (Allen) Lyons. Her husband, Thurston S. Goodwin Jr., of 50 years, died in 1997.

At an early age, Christine devoted her life to Jesus Christ and later as a young woman, she carried her devotion into her marriage with her husband and the motherly responsibility of caring for her children. Her faith and family was her greatest joy. She also loved her church by serving in many capacities, one example, teaching for almost 50 years. She was an excellent homemaker and used her gifts, to serve others. She would invite pastors and their families to her home for Sunday lunch, once a month, for many years. She was very compassionate and would help anyone that crossed her path, that was in need, especially the homeless. She was an avid doll collector and her love for dolls has been passed down through three generations.

Christine will be dearly missed and so lovingly remembered by her son Ronald W Goodwin, daughter in law Valerie Goodwin of Chattanooga, TN; her daughter Sandra L Silas and husband David J Silas, MD of Heber Springs, Arkansas; daughter Brenda G Shome, MD and husband Sibaji Shome, MD of Signal Mountain, TN; grandchildren, Matthew Silas and wife Lori, Lisa Silas, Shana McHaffey and husband Kevin, David Silas, Jr and wife Karen, Tonya Rainey and husband Bob, Ashton Silas and wife Lisa, Varissia Chapman and husband Richard, Tiffany Goodwin, Ruston Shome and Gina Shome. There are great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 in the North Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, at 11:30 AM with Rev. Bill Harvey officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan's Purse or any contribution that will spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
