Carolyn Jordan Sowders of Hixson, TN. Passed away Monday, May 30, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her family. A native of Waco, Texas, Carolyn met and married Gene Sowders while they were students attending Baylor University. After traveling the USA with Colonial Pipeline construction companies as land right of way agents for several years-they discovered (Gods Country) and the TVA. They knew immediately they had found where they would settle and raise their children, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Carolyn was a 'rockhound' and a member of Tennessee Valley Rock and Mineral Club and the UTC Geology Club for 25 years. She teamed with a fellow rockhound; they gave over 40.000 bags of polished stones to children at the Hamilton County Fair. Besides enjoying beautiful rocks and fossils, petrified wood was her passion. Carolyn loved the outdoors: playing in the dirt, growing a vegetable garden and beautiful flower gardens. The blue birds delighted her with their arrival each spring. She retired from her dream job as office/business manager at Valleybrook Golf and Country Club of Hixson after 24 years. After retirement, she worked as a licensed tax preparer for H&R Brock for six years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Eugene "Gene" Sowders and son, Michael D. Sowders, both of Hixson and her brothers, Jack G. Jordan and Kirby Jordan of Waco, Texas.
Survivors include sons, Clifford E. (Kathy) Sowders and K. Dale (Beverly) Sowders, all of Catoosa County GA. Daughter Donna Carole(Richard) Pagleno of Walker County, GA, One granddaughter Sarah Danielle Sowders Frazier of Catoosa County GA. Daughter-in-law, Debbie Lee Sowders of Hixson TN. Numerous nieces and nephews of Waco, Texas.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon Saturday, June 4 at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest beside "the love of her life" the father of her children, Gene Sowders.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 Friday and from 11 until the funeral hour on Saturday.
