A native of Marion County, Carol was the daughter of Boyed and Winnie Spears Spangler. She graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in education. Carol was a beloved teacher at Boyd Buchanan School for 39 years, and continued to actively support the school after retirement as an avid fan of the Lady Bucs Basketball Team, coached by her daughter, and her grandsons’ school activities.
Carol’s ever-present smile warmed the hearts of her students, friends, and family, her love for teaching influenced hundreds of young minds, and her steadfast faithfulness to the Lord impacted all who knew her. She loved to read, watch her grandson’s ball games, travel with Paul, and simply enjoy each moment with her family. She was a Sunday School teacher, Bible class leader, and faithful member of Lake Hills Church of Christ. In recent years, she was a volunteer at CHI Memorial Northpark and a member of the CHI Memorial Auxiliary Board.
Carol is survived by the love of her life, her high school sweetheart and husband of 54 years, Paul Barnett; daughter Tracey Walker and husband Joe; son Adam Barnett; three grandsons, Brody Barnett, Hutch and Caden Walker; granddaughter Jessah Davis, all of Chattanooga; sister Peggy McDonald, husband Larry, and their family, all of Nashville.
