With heavy hearts, the family of Bobbie Ann Dodd Welchance announces her passing on December 19th, 2024, at the age of 90. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and Mamaw to all who knew her, she will be deeply missed.
Bobbie Ann was born on September 9th, 1934 in Decatur, Alabama to her late parents Margaret and Ernest Dodd. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she married and started a family of her own.
For many years, she was the proud owner of Northside Upholstery, a business she started in 1959 and built from the ground up. You could find her at the shop working every day until the age of 86. Bobbie was a very talented seamstress and upholstered many beautiful pieces of furniture throughout her career. If you’ve ever sat at Memorial Auditorium or remember Nikki’s red booths, you know the quality of her work.
Above all, Bobbie Ann was known for being deeply loving and always generous. She held a special place in the hearts of her family, who were the center of her world. She took great pride in her family, offering her wisdom, love, and support whenever it was needed. As the proud matriarch, she guided and nurtured her loved ones with kindness and grace.
She is preceded in death by husband, Rod Welchance; brother, Ronald Dodd; sons, Bill and Mike Howard; daughter-in-law, Donna Sue Howard.
She was the oldest of five children and is survived by her brothers, Kenneth, Jack, and Gary Dodd; step-daughter, Wilma Mitchell; grandsons, Billy (Allison) Howard, Michael (Renee) Broussard, Roy (Robyn) Mitchell; great-grandchildren Alexandria (Katherine) Benson, Jax (Rebekah) Howard, Cameron Howard, Hayden, Madison, and Hannah Roessel, Lily and Jade Broussard; nephews Page and Hunter Dodd, and several other nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 23rd, 2024 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 10:00 with a service to follow at 12:00.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
Though she is no longer with us, Bobbie Ann will always be remembered for her loving nature, her dedication to her family, and the lasting impact she made on all those who had the privilege of knowing her as Mamaw Bobbie.
Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
