Bill was born in Chicago, IL on August 16, 1949 to the late Pitt B. Harris, Sr. and Elizabeth Anne Harris (Seibert).
After graduating from Mt. De Sales High School in Macon, GA, Bill attended Furman University and West Georgia College before opting for a career in industrial construction.
Bill leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Melba Smothers; children, Shannon Conlee (Brian), Stephanie Root (John), Keith Harris (Erin) and Marc Baker; sisters, Elizabeth Harris Pope and Barbara Harris Morgan; grandchildren, Sarah Tyndall, Tillie and Ella Root, Riley and Madi Baker; several cousins and nieces and many friends.
Bill’s passions in life were his family, music, and the great outdoors. His favorite times were those that combined all three on his annual family camping trip which included three generations of Harris’s. “Daddy Bill” enjoyed many years camping and trout fishing in the mountains of North Georgia. He also passed his love of music on to his children and grandchildren and they attended many concerts together as a family. He will be greatly missed by all.
A liver transplant in 2014 gave Bill five more years with his loved ones. Please consider becoming an organ donor or contributing to the Georgia Transplant Foundation.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 17, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the home of Jim and Carol Boyd, 889 Burwell Rd., Carrollton, GA 30117.
