A graduate of Mississippi State University in engineering, he worked as an electrical engineer with the U.S.A.F. on aircraft systems, an aerospace engineer with NASA on the Apollo spacecraft guidance system, and with the U.S. Army Missile Command on tactical tank systems before God called him to full-time ministry.

With a heart for missions, Bert was one of the founders of the Honduras Baptist Medical, Dental, Evangelism Mission which has flourished for 42 years (since 1974), and now sends about twenty-five teams a year into remote villages there. The Lord has brought thousands into His kingdom through this ministry.
Bert served faithfully on the Tennessee Baptist Executive Board & the Committee on Boards, as president of religious educators in Mississippi and Tennessee, and teacher of multiple conferences nationally for the Baptist Sunday School Board (LifeWay). His pastoral care and ministry of prayer has been a blessing to many. He had a listening ear and a servant & shepherd’s heart. Integrity, servant to others, and devotion to family were quite evident in his life.
