Ruth Ethel Shope

Ruth E. Shope, age 89, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021, after an extended stay at Westlake Health Campus in Commerce Township. She was the daughter of Hobart Sr. and Bertha Shope. Prior to retirement, Ruth spent extensive time as a teacher's aide in the Wayne/Westland public school system, taking much pride in caring for and helping special needs children. She loved music, especially gospel music and served as a church pianist for a number of years.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in passing by her sisters: Hazel Young, Mabel Hooker and Mary Sue Belcher; and her brothers: Hobart Jr., Calvin, Robert, Clarence and David Shope.

Ruth is survived by her daughter: Vivian (Mike) Fleszar; her sons: Michael (Hannah) Sherrill, Richard (Cindy) Sherrill, Joel (Renee) Sherrill and Timothy (Wendy) Sherrill; and her brother: James "Red" (Gail) Shope. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 1:30pm until 2:30pm with a Private Family Service of Remembrance at 3:00pm at the Highland Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 3295 E.
