John WM Hill, of Highland, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on June 24, 1939, John's life was marked by unwavering dedication to his family, community, and passions.
John pursued his education at Lawrence Technological University, where he laid the foundation for a successful career. He worked at Darin and Armstrong, Walbridge and served as the Chief Estimator for Barton Malow, retiring in 2006, where his expertise and leadership left an indelible mark on the industry.
On May 12, 1990, John married his devoted wife, Constance "Connie" Hill, blending their families. They embarked on countless adventures, traveling to their favorite destinations such as Branson, Missouri, and Mazatlán, Mexico. No matter where they went, John seemed to always meet someone he knew. His warmth and charm ensured that he made friends everywhere he went.
John found joy in simple pleasures, from fishing and watching sports to playing cards—especially Bridge and Hand and Foot. He cherished moments spent boating, traveling, and going for leisurely drives, reveling in the company of loved ones. John also loved going to spend time at Debbie and Chris’s cottage on Houghton Lake.
Beyond his personal pursuits, John was deeply committed to serving his community. As Treasurer of the Huron Valley Lions Club for over 30 years and Past President of the Eagles Club multiple times. He embodied the spirit of altruism. His philanthropic efforts extended to Mexico, where he and Connie sponsored two children's educations. John was active in the P.I.M.E. Missionaries and as an honoree of their annual fundraising golf outing, had a Mexican mission named for him. It is called The John and Constance Chapel in Mexico.
John's legacy of kindness and generosity will endure through the countless lives he touched. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Connie, and a legacy of love and compassion. He is survived by his children Robin (Charles) Lux, Leslie (Charles) Beresford, Debra (Christopher) DeAngelo, Lynda (Raphael) Lieto, Ronald Fox, and Carol Fox. His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren Thomas, Robert, Gerald, Ryan, Michele, Emily, Dominic, Rachel, Travis, and Breanna, as well as his great-grandchildren Abbey, Aidan, Violet, Eli, McKenna, Camryn, Grayson, Ellen, Abel, and Ava.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton E. and Mildred J. Hill, and his son Michael O'Brien, and his son in law Don Splawn. Though he may have left this world, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Visitation for John will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, located at 3295 East Highland Road, Highland, Michigan 48356. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 with an instate hour from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM and service beginning at 11:00 AM at Cornerstone Church of Highland, located at 4995 N Hickory Ridge Rd, Highland, MI 48357. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s honor to the Huron Valley Lions Club.
