Karen S. Chmielewski Shanahan

Karen S. Shanahan, age 72 of Hammond, IN passed away March 13, 2014. She is survived by her husband Mike; three children: Cindy (David Stephen) Shanahan, Vickki Shanahan, and Dean Shanahan; four grandchildren: Catlin, Kendall, Delani Stevenson, and Shane Woods; one brother, Dan (Cathy) Chmielewski; one sister, Carol (Jim) Roark; and three nephews. Preceded in death by her parents: John and Dorothy. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Rd. (two blocks south of Ridge Rd.), Highland, IN with Rev. Peter Irvine officiating. Burial Chapel Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Monday March 17, 2014 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Karen was a 1961 graduate of Calumet High School. She was an LPN and worked in labor and deliver at St. Margaret Hospital in Hammond. Karen was a wonderful girl scout leader, red cross volunteer, an artist, and an avid gardener. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to Amedisys Home Health, Providence at home, and Harbor Lights Hospice who helped us greatly during our time of need.
