Joy Joan Poulas Larson, age 86, died in hospice care after prolonged illness at Lincolnshire Nursing Home in Merrillville, Indiana on November 12, 2021. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 8, 1935. She was a proud 1953 graduate of Calumet High School where she met the love of her life, Donald Edward Larson. They were married in 1959. Joy attended DePaul University and worked for many years as a medical transcriptionist before retiring.
Joy was an avid reader, die hard Chicago Cubs fan, Chicago Bulls fan, and a fan of the Fighting Illini. She took great pride in being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She loved Broadway musicals, dining out, and spending time with friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter, Gretchen Larson Skoog, son in law Mark Skoog, grandson, Sean Skoog, godchild and nephew, Brian Hall, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Larson, and her sister, Elaine Hall.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at Kuiper Funeral Home in Highland, Indiana, Sunday, November 28, 2021 at 12 Noon, followed by luncheon at Theo’s in Highland, Indiana. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 AM until time of service.
