Joseph L Vickers

Joseph L. Vickers, age 83, of Griffith, passed away June 13, 2011. He is survived by two daughters: Leesa (Mark) Wendt and Lydia (Thomas) Hojnacki; son, Scott (Lisa) Vickers; six grandchildren: Nicholas, Matthew, and Emma Wendt, Kevin and Kelly Vickers, and Brad Gernenz. Preceded in death by his wife, Frances, in 2005. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 6709 Arizona Ave., Hammond with Rev. James A. Thompson officiating. Burial at Chapel Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, June 16, 2011 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road), Highland. Joseph was a 60 year member of Pipefitters Local 599, Weblos Leader for Pack 503, Scout Master for Troop 264 for 20 years, helped 13 boys attain the rank of Eagle Scout, served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1946-1948, and served with the Lake County Police. Memorial donations may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church.
