

John "Jack" Preston, age 87, of Highland, IN, passed away on August 6, 2015. It was his 60th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his beloved wife Joan nee Golumbeck; his son Christopher Preston; daughter Dr. Lisa Preston (Edward Putnam); and daughter Lori Preston-Cox (Robert Cox). He was a loving grandpa to Joseph and Thomas Preston; Shannon and Jeremy Putnam and Loralie, Nathaniel, Madalynn and Zachary Cox. He is also survived by his siblings William Preston (Betty), Joseph Preston (Alice), Mary Ann Sullivan (James) and many nieces and nephews.
Jack lived a full and interesting life. He served in the U.S. Navy. He attended Indiana State University, was a John Hay Fellow in residence at Harvard and earned a doctorate in education from the University of Illinois.
He retired from the School Town of Munster where he served as assistant superintendent, high school principal and teacher of English. He began his teaching career at Hammond High.
In retirement, Jack did volunteer work for Saint Vincent de Paul and Hospice of the Calumet Area.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 9 from 3-8 PM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Grace Church, 3005 Condit St, Highland on Monday, August 10 at 10:30 AM with Msgr. Joseph Semancik officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
