Doris M Hildebrandt Maurer

Doris M. Maurer (nee Hildebrandt), age 85, of Hammond (late of Chesterton), entered into eternal life with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, February 14, 2011. She is survived by six loving children: Christopher Maurer of WI, Beverly (Bruce) Thevenin of Chesterton, Peggy (Richard) Lenehan of Highland, David (Kathleen) Maurer of Muncie, Donna Cox of Munster, and Laura (Daniel) Jercha of Munster; daughters- in-law: Molly Maurer of Munster and Sue Maurer of Wichita, KS. Doris was blessed with 19 grandchildren: Chris (Martha) Maurer, Greg (Holly) Maurer, Richard (Kristin) Maurer, Daniel (Janica) Maurer, Lynnette (Mark) Leonard, Robert Maurer, Brian Thevenin, Emily Thevenin, Sarah Thevenin, Melissa Thevenin, Matthew (Teresa) Lenehan, Joseph (Emily) Lenehan, Becky (Brian) Fogarty, Patrick (Jaci) Lenehan, Lisa Maurer, Diana Cox, Eric Cox, Abbie Jercha, and Jonathan Jercha; eight great grandchildren: Byron, Nolan, Jack, Henry, Ben, Phoebe, Travis, and Dillon. Also survived by two sisters: Carol (Charles) Biesen of Highland and Myrna (late Richard) Dudley of TX; and many nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents: Edward and Isabel Hildebrandt; son, Bruce Maurer; and sister and brother-in-law: Nola and Garlin DeRolf. Doris was a member of Southside Christian Church where she attended the Women's Fellowship and Ruth Group. She was also a member of the Tuesday Morning Ladies Bible Study. Doris graduated from Hammond High School in 1942, St. Joseph's Calumet College and received her Master's degree from Purdue University. She taught from 1964-1985 at Woodrow Wilson School in Hammond. Doris loved music, reading, old movies, and delighted in visiting her children when they lived in Germany, Alaska and D.C. She was a wonderful mother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Southside Christian Church, 1000 Broadmoor, Munster, IN with Pastor Mike Gillespie officiating. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery in Michigan City, IN. Friends may call on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 from 2:00-5:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road (two blocks south of Ridge Road), Highland, IN. Memorials may be given to Southside Christian Church.
