David embraced his faith early in life, accepting Christ and being baptized at Holy Trinity M.B. Church in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Crane High School and later attended Roosevelt University, before serving honorably in the Army during the Vietnam War.
Following his military service, David began a career as an insurance salesman while pursuing a nursing degree at Dawson College. It was there that he met the love of his life and best friend, Geneva Richards. Together, they created a warm and nurturing family, filled with countless cherished memories.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence, Sr. and Mary Richards; as well as three brothers, Clarence, Jr., Leroy, and Darryl (Victoria) Richards. He was also preceded by a nephew, Cornelius; two nieces, Stephanie Richards and Joyce Myles; and a grandson, Kaylin Douglas.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 41 years, Geneva, and their four children, Dina Douglas of Portage, IN, Marcus (Cristy) Douglas of Dallas, GA, Jamila (Ivan) Paige of Atlanta, GA, and Taifa Douglas of Jacksonville, FL. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Darius, Marcus, Jr., Taijae, DeArJnae, Taifa, Jr., Prince, Daija, and Kailee, as well as his great-grandchildren, Ezekial and Jabari. David is also survived by eight siblings, Bessie Myles of Rockford, IL, Gloria Elrod of Chicago, IL, Elaine McKinney of Chicago, IL, Donald (Alice) Richards of Chicago, IL, Lloyd Richards of Chicago, IL, Evangelist Sherry (Minister Tony) Johnson of Bolingbrook, IL, Cynthia Richards of Chicago, IL, and Vanessa (Melvin) Risper of Chicago, IL; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation for David will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, IN 46322, followed by a funeral service from 12:00 to 12:30 PM.
